BBQ Brisket

This BBQ brisket takes around 2.5-3 hours with prep and cooking! Prep time is only 10 minutes. You can make the rub and leave the brisket to sit for 20 minutes or so prior before making the sauce.

I serve this one with a sweet potato/potato mash and asparagus. I create a mushroom gravy to put over my mash and asparagus also.

Serves roughly 3 people!

What you will need:

Marinade / Rub:

  • 2 tsp: Smoked Paprika

  • 1 tsp: Minced Garlic

  • 1/2 tsp: Cumin Powder

  • 1 tsp: Whole Grain Mustard

  • 1 tsp: Salt

  • 1/2 tsp: Black Pepper

  • 2 tbsp: Olive Oil

  • 1kg: Beef Brisket

Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp: Brown Sugar

  • 1 tsp: Cumin Powder

  • 2 tbsp: Tomato Sauce

  • 1 tbsp: Worcestershire Sauce

  • 2 tsp: Smoked Paprika

  • 1 tsp: Whole Grain Mustard

  • 1/3 Cup: Water

Method:

  1. In a big bowl (big enough to fit the brisket in), add together all of the marinade ingredients. Stir until you create a paste. Once you have created a paste, place the brisket in the bowl, and rub the marinade into the brisket. Set aside for 20 minutes. Pre-heat the oven to 180C fan forced.

  2. Heat a pan on high heat with oil and sear the sides of the brisket only slightly. This is to brown the meat and it helps retain its moisture inside.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix together all of the sauce ingredients.

  4. In an oven safe dish, place the brisket in the middle and pour over the sauce. Place brisket in the oven for 2 and a half hours. If you like your brisket crispy on the outside I suggest heating your BBQ on high and searing the outside of the brisket once out of the oven. Only do this briefly so the meat does not dry and I would take out of the oven before the 2 & half hour mark.
